Is rent control going to affect YOU in 2020?

Statewide Rent Control in CA is effective Jan 1, 2020 and this is what you should know. AB 1482 was approved on 9/11/2019 and at that time the bill was sent to the governor  Newsom who is expected to sign it. The bill will take effect January 1, 2020.

Some of the major provisions of AB1482 include:

  • Rent Cap-A Cap of annual rent increases set at 5% plus inflation, up to a maximum of 10% per year. 
  • Just Cause-Owners need “just cause” prior to terminating tenancy
    Exemptions and Noticing- This bill protects tenants who have been in possession for a year or more.
